Een mooie eindsprint maakt dat The Last Resort één puntje meer heeft dan Mumford & Sons, de nummer 51 van dit jaar.

Na Boudewijn de Groot in de 60s is het vaak lang wachten op een ander Nederlands album bij de bovenste 50. Er zijn jaren geweest dat het Opgezwolle (40, 43 en 48 in de eerste drie edities) ook lukte, maar die komt niet verder dan plek 79. Typhoon haalt ternauwernood de top 150.
Spinvis haalt het dus wel, maar er had gezien de tussenstanden ook nog top 40 in gezeten.

Ik verbaas me toch wel over de populairiteit van Wilco en dan vooral in negatieve zin. De albums scoren erg goede gemiddeldes en er wordt best vaak op gestemd, maar toch is alleen Sky Blue Sky nog twee keer genoemd en A Ghost is Born één keer door ondergetekende.
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is verder wel een vaste klant in de top 40, maar dat houdt dit jaar dus op.

Tot aan het einde dus.

Na een geweldige 14e positie in de allereerste editie is metal op een zijspoor belandt. Eigenlijk alleen de progressieve metal van Porcupine Tree (wat toch eerder hardere progressieve rock is) wist nog potten te beken. Blackwater Park wist zich nog wel te handhaven bij de bovenste 50 en de twee jaren daarna, maar vorig jaar leek de koek op.
Dit jaar is Blackwater Park weer helemaal terug. Na 100 lijstjes was Blackwater Park weer uit de top 40 gevallen, maar op het einde was er nog een reddende engel die de Zweedse mannen terug de top 40 in duwde.

Takk en Hospice stonden in 2013 ook al zij aan zij, toen op 44 en 45 en in dezelfde volgorde als nu. Gezien de populariteit van Sigur Rós en Takk heeft het me altijd verbaasd dat Takk nooit tot de beste 40 kon doordringen, maar dit jaar is daar verandering in gekomen. En lager dan deze 30e positie hebben de IJslandse mannen ook niet gestaan.

Het succes vanuit Seattle van de grunge heeft dit decennium plaatsgemaakt voor de zoete folk van Fleet Foxes. De terugval van vorig jaar bleek niet eenmalig en dat komt vooral door het bijzonder lage gemiddelde van 4,28. Madvillain scoort doorgaans erg goed in het begin, maar valt dan weer weg. Natuurlijk mooi dat Madvillain zo goed scoort. Aan de andere kant zeer mager dat de hiphoppers het moet stellen met dit album nu Atmosphere voor het tweede jaar op rij de boot mist (ditmaal op 52!) en zoals gezegd Typhoon en Opgezwolle er ook niet bij zijn. Verder in de top 100 ook nog The Cold Vein (72) en A Piece of Strange (92).

In Rainbows begon op 1, moest die plek afstaan aan Funeral, werd ook door Kid A gepaseerd, heroverde de koppositie werd, maar werd op het einde compleet overrompeld door Funeral. Van de laatste 17 lijstjes waren er 55 punten voor Funeral en slechts 23 voor In Rainbows. Dat geeft dus aan dat In Rainbows tegen het einde een dikke voorsprong opgebouwd had. Het bleek niet genoeg.

Voor de statistieken: 82 Amnesiac en 112 Hail to the Thief.
